As a low-cost alternative to a metal professional-grade mandoline, this versatile tool will appeal to novice cooks bent on creating uniform fruit and vegetable slices for salads, pies, tarts, and garnishes. Snap four different plates in and out of the tool to quickly produce thin (but not paper-thin), medium, and thick slices; grate coarsely or finely; julienne; and make shoestring-size french fries.
